VECTOGRAMS

Equipment: Variable vectogram slides, (anaglyph), (BC 500 series from Bernell), slide holder legs, red/green glasses.

Purpose: Develop oculomotor skill and eye hand coordination, some motor planning.

Procedure: Patient wears red/green glasses with red over right eye. Patient is seated in front of cards with cards at arm's length. The holder should be against a white background. First determine that the patient sees the depth effect before moving the cards apart. Begin moving the cards apart and record the number at the top or bottom scale where the patient reports that the circles get doubled. Slowly move the cards together until the patient recovers fusion (sees single and depth again). Then again push them further apart. Continue working in the same direction for about five minutes. Then move the cards in the opposite direction and record the number where the patient sees double again. Continue with the same procedure. Patient should continue to see depth, clear and keep all three shapes lined up in the middle (for BC 520 only).

Note: to determine if you are working on convergence or
divergence, observe the following: if the colors of the circle are on
the same side as the glasses i.e. red to the right of green and red
is on the right side then convergence is being stimulated. This will
be the bottom scale.

Note: the direction you will work on depends upon whether you are
training convergence or divergence.

Gradations:

  1. Have patient move out a few marks on the scale. Look away, look back and recover fusion. Continue to move the cards further out, look away, and recover fusion. Record how far the patient could get before they are unable to recover.

  2. Have patient walk around while moving slides apart.
