THUMB ROTATION

Equipment: Thumb and eyepatch, or letters taped to tongue depressor.

Purpose: Develop oculomotor skill and eye hand coordination, some motor planning.

Procedure: Can be performed monocularly or binocularly. Patient makes a fist with a thumb extended, and while holding head still keeps eyes on thumb, moves thumb slowly around in a circle, 3 times in each direction.

Gradations:

  1. Instead of thumb, use letters on a tongue depressor.

  2. Use ball on end of a pencil.
