Dr. Laurie Chaikin

Dr. Laurie Chaikin received her degree in optometry from University of California Berkeley School of Optometry in 1993. She also has a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy ('83), and a Bachelors in Art History ('76). As an Occupational Therapist she worked with children and adults with learning disabilities, and in neurorehabilitation of patients recovering from stroke and other brain injuries. She has lectured throughout the nation, and taught over 40 2-day seminars which she developed for educating rehabilitation therapists about vision screeening and vision rehab. She has published chapters on visual rehabilitation in Darcy Umphred's textbook Neurological Rehabilitation. Dr. Chaikin has been a guest lecturer at San Jose State University Occupational Therapy Dept, Merrit College OT Dept, and at local Optometic Society meetings and continuing education courses.

In her practice in Castro Valley, in addition to providing general optometric and contact lens care, she also specializes in low vision and visual rehabilitation.
